In the spirit of competition, awards will be given 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place in each division. There will also be one award for the cart with the best appearance and most originality
There are 2 divisions - Junior Division: Ages 7-10 - Senior Division 2: Ages 11-14

Ground Clearance (distance from road to bottom of cart): Min. 3” – Max. 8”
Wheelbase: Maximum: 72” long, 42” wide. Minimum: 48” long, 24” wide
Cart Length: Maximum: 96"
Cart Width: Maximum: 40"
Cart Weight (Empty) Maximum: 110 lbs. (Cart must be lifted onto start ramp) No added weights or ballast are allowed
Steering and Braking Systems:
The cart must not have glass or other materials that could shatter or otherwise cause injury to drivers or spectators.
We highly recommend a road test of your cart prior to race day to ensure the driver is able to safely control steering and brake properly. Please inspect the cart after testing prior to race day.
Optimist Legends Soapbox Derby Race Stewards will rule on all carts and their decision is final.
Racers that are disqualified before the race may be permitted to complete one run each, but will not be allowed to win, despite results at the finish line

A number can be displayed on the body of the cart. Number choice is unregulated and is not used by race officials in any capacity.

REGISTRATION:
- Each driver must register in advance by completing and submitting the Registration form. The online Waiver must also be submitted prior to race day.
- On race day, starting at 12:00 noon, each driver must check in. Each driver must have a parent or legal guardian attend with them.
- Each driver’s parent or legal guardian must sign in to acknowledge consent and race waiver prior to racing.
- Please Note: The logistics of moving the cart from the bottom of the course to the top of the course between races limits the number of drivers who can share one cart. Optimist Legends Soapbox Derby Race Stewards may need to limit cart sharing within each division.
- Each driver must have completed their check in by 1:00 pm to be ready for cart inspection and receive a start position.
- Admission is free.
- Each cart must pass a safety inspection prior to racing to receive a start position. Special attention will be given to axles, wheels, steering and brakes.
- Carts may be re-inspected after each race to insure safety.
- DOT- or CSA- approved helmets MUST be worn by ALL drivers. We highly recommend full-face masks on helmets, long sleeve shirts and gloves for extra protection.
- The driver’s body must be a minimum of 50% in the cart all times and be able to operate brakes and steering.
- Drivers must maintain a line of sight that assures safe navigation. The driver’s head cannot be in front of their feet.

- No foot steering or rope direct steering is allowed.
- The driver must be able to hold the cart in a stopped position when push tested by race officials.
- Please Note: The brake when up (released position) must meet the 3” minimum ground clearance requirement to avoid catching on the starting ramp.

- A raised starting ramp is used to give carts a speed boost and provide even start conditions.
- Carts must start by gravity from a standstill from the starting ramp without help. No pushing will be allowed.
- The cart that crosses over the finish line first according to the decision of the judges is the winner.
- The winner will receive a card and return to the staging area to prepare for the next race.
Re-Races:
- Re-races will be considered for the following reasons: interference from spectators, obstacles or other carts entering your lane.
- Any offending cart may be disqualified from further races.
